Disenfranchised Grief

Disenfranchised grief is loss that is experienced that not understood or validated by others. The loss may be out of the realm of understanding by others, there may be stigma or shame associated with the loss, or others may minimize the loss. The misunderstood loss often results in those impacted lacking support, grieving alone, or being isolated. For further information on disenfranchised grief, see the attached article published in the Insights magazine (pages 15-19).
